North Granby student named to All-American Scholar Team for golf

Recent Amherst College graduate Laura Monty '12, of North Granby, has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, a prestigious honor with some of the most stringent criteria in all of collegiate athletics.

Monty was one of only five NESCAC golfers to land a spot on the All-American Scholar Team for Division III, as she graduated with a GPA above the award's minimum requirement of 3.50.

While majoring in economics at Amherst, Monty was consistently one of the top performers on the women's golf team. As a first-year she finished with one of the Lord Jeffs' two lowest scores in five tournaments, including at the NCAA Championships.

As a senior captain during the 2011-12 season, Monty helped Amherst finish in the top-three in all seven of the team's events. After posting the team's best score at NYU and the second best at Williams in the fall, she played a pivotal role as the Jeffs won their first two tournaments of the spring. Notably, Monty won the individual title at the Jack Leaman Championship by shooting a 75-79-154.

Monty leaves big shoes to fill, but her younger sister, Liz '13, will look to lead the Lord Jeffs during the 2012-13 season along with fellow senior Irene Hickey '13.
